Parkview SAPS bring smiles to the Salvation Army Emmarentia Eventide Home
The elderly were treated to blankets and a dog show, all in the spirit of Mandela Day.
In a spirit of giving and community support, Parkview SAPS, along with its Community Policing Forum (CPF), Department of Community Safety and their K9 unit, came together at the Salvation Army Emmarentia Eventide Home to spend their 67 minutes in honour of Mandela Day with the elderly residents.
“There are certain groups within our precinct that fall into the vulnerable category, and we decided to spend our 67 minutes with them,” said Parkview CPF chair Bianca Albertini.

The visit featured a dog show, which the residents had been eagerly anticipating, as well as the opportunity to meet their canine friends. They enjoyed hot chocolate, coffee, and doughnuts.

The Parkview SAPS also expressed their ongoing support for the home, noting that it is well-known in the area and receives regular assistance from the police service.
In a show of solidarity, the Muslim community from Masjid Ar Rahmah, Greenside mosque, contributed to the day by donating blankets to the residents. Mohammed Karmada, a representative of the mosque, shared, “As Muslims, it teaches us to help one another, and that is what our religion teaches us well.”
“Mandela Day is about giving back and making people feel seen and heard,” Albertini emphasised.
