JMPD responds to safety woes at Albertskroon pool
Due to safety concerns raised by Ward 86 councillor Chantelle Fourie-Shawe, the JMPD launched a clean-up operation around the Albertskroon pool.
As summer approaches and families prepare for pool season, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has addressed concerns raised by Ward 86 councillor Chantelle Fourie-Shawe regarding the deteriorating safety conditions around the Osche Square municipal swimming pool in Albertskroon.
Fourie-Shawe notified JMPD on the reported presence of a scrapyard and illegal accommodations in the area, which pose significant safety risks to the community. She also pointed out numerous violations that have contributed to the declining state of law and order around the pool.

In response to these concerns, JMPD Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed that a multi-disciplinary clean-up operation was conducted in the vicinity, with the JMPD actively participating. “The JMPD has been in direct communication with the ward councillor regarding the reported issues, which include informal trading, illegal occupancy, loitering, and suspected drug dealing.

”Fihla acknowledged the concerns surrounding the scrapyard and potential building contraventions located across from the pool. He emphasised that the operation was a concerted effort to address various by-law contraventions and criminal activities reported in the area. “We continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to maintain safety and order in the community.”
