Youth choirs deliver unforgettable night of song

Roosevelt High played host to an unforgettable night filled with harmony and 300 voices blending smoothly together in celebration of choral talent.

It was an unforgettable evening of music, and a celebration of choral talent, as the Johannesburg Youth Choir, in collaboration with Roosevelt High School, hosted a vibrant choir festival, bringing together six talented choirs on August 17.

Roosevelt High choir master Duncan Fourie expressed his enthusiasm for the festival, noting that each of the six choirs, including Northcliff Primary School, Jeppe High School for Boys, Northcliff High School, Jeppe High School for Girls, and Greenside High School, performed distinct programmes tailored to their unique vocal strengths.

“They were well-trained, and rendered good performances.” The highlight of the evening, according to Fourie, was the finale, featuring over 300 voices singing and dancing together, creating a captivating spectacle that delighted the audience.

The festival showed the hard work and dedication of each choir, as they prepared their own selections of songs. The hosting choirs, Roosevelt High School and the Johannesburg Youth Choir, managed the event’s logistics, including invitations, confirmations, ticket sales, and the printing of programmes. They also co-ordinated the setup of choir benches to accommodate the large number of choristers participating in the mass choir.

Fourie said this year’s festival marked the second consecutive year that it was held at Roosevelt High School, and the choirs relished the opportunity to interact and share the stage highlighting the sense of community fostered through the event.
