Melville community rallies to restore 7th Street spirit, safety and local charm

A community-driven upgrade aims to restore Melville’s busiest retail street.

The Melville Business Association (MBA) is leading a major facelift of the suburb’s well-known 7th Street, with work already underway to improve the look, feel and safety of the area. The initiative is being driven jointly by the MBA and the Melville Residents Association (MRA), who have taken on both the planning and funding of the project.

“We, as the MBA executives, have personally contributed 60% of the funding, with the MRA contributing 40%,” said Cobi Meyer Domingos of the MBA. “It’s important to us that Melville remains clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.”

The hands-on work is being carried out by CREASS Community Services. Their team, led by Danny Nunes, identified key maintenance needs and is now focused on tackling them — including pavement repairs, repainting curbstones and parking bays, clearing stormwater drains and ensuring walkways are safe and accessible. The improvements also extend to neighbouring 4th Avenue, another vital corridor for local businesses and visitors.

Domingos said the project reflects a broader vision for Melville’s future. “Revitalising these key streets supports local economic growth through urban renewal and community pride,” she explained. “A more attractive environment draws visitors, supports small businesses and keeps Melville’s unique village atmosphere thriving.”

The partnership with the Melville Security Initiative (MSI) stemmed naturally from a shared commitment to enhancing both the look and safety of the neighbourhood.
