De La Salle Holy Cross College highlights outreach, sportsmanship, and unity in 2025

Principal Linda Galanakis says the school community were committed to extending themselves beyond the gates.

As 2025 draws to a close, De La Salle Holy Cross College reflects on a year that lived up to its long-held motto: Be first that you may be of service. Principal Linda Galanakis says the school community – pupils, parents, and staff – remained steadfast in extending themselves beyond the campus gates through an extensive outreach network that has become a defining feature of the college.

Service, however, wasn’t confined to organised programmes alone. Galanakis notes that kindness was visible in unexpected corners, particularly on the sports fields and courts, where the school’s teams once again paired competitive spirit with genuine sportsmanship.

The year’s major gatherings brought colour, noise, and unmistakable camaraderie. May’s Highland Gathering drew the community together in spirited celebration, followed by June’s vibrant colour run that turned the campus into a festival of movement and unity. A visit to the pantomime Pinocchio added a touch of shared joy, reminding families and pupils of the simple power of coming together.

Galanakis says these occasions reaffirm what it means to belong to an inclusive school community – one where connection and service are woven into daily life. As the festive season approaches, her wish is a simple but resonant one: That kindness extends far beyond holiday rituals and becomes a lasting posture towards friends and family.
