Northcliff High celebrates record Bachelor’s Degree pass achievement

Having once again affirmed its academic standing, posting a 98.1% matric pass rate and a strong showing in Bachelor’ Degree-level passes, Northcliff High School head of academics reflected on years of consistent, pupil-centred education.

Northcliff High School is celebrating another outstanding matric performance, with the Class of 2025 achieving a 98.1% overall pass rate — matching last year’s result and reinforcing the school’s reputation for academic excellence.

Of the 2025 matriculants, 204 passed at Bachelor’s Degree level, representing 75.3% of the class. In addition, learners achieved 40 diploma passes and 19 achieved higher certificate passes, outcomes the school has described as both encouraging and deeply affirming of its educational approach.

Head of academics Jenny Pierce said the results were about far more than percentages and certificates. “I’m exceptionally proud. Our aim at Northcliff is to get as many Bachelor’s Degree passes as we can, but more than that, we want to know that we’ve offered our pupils the best possible education and that they are well prepared for university.”

She noted that Northcliff consistently ranks among the top feeder schools for institutions, such as Wits University, the University of Pretoria, and the University of Johannesburg, particularly in terms of first-year performance. More than 80% of Northcliff pupils who begin university go on to complete and pass their degrees, with many continuing into postgraduate studies and excelling there as well. “For us, this is just the beginning. We believe these results mark the start of what will be illustrious careers for our pupils.”

Looking ahead, Pierce’s message to both current and future matriculants remains unchanged. “Follow your passion and work towards it. Pieces of paper are gateways, but passion is what really matters. We want our pupils to love what they do, to explore the world, fulfil their dreams, and live lives of contentment.”

Pierce attributed the school’s sustained success to a strong partnership between educators, learners, and parents, describing it as a proverbial triangle that underpins everything Northcliff does. “These children have been shaped over five years of high school. This is not the work of a single matric teacher; it’s the collective effort of all our educators, supported by parents, always with the child at the centre of every decision.”
