The Discovery of less potholes Auckland Park
Discovery Pothole Patrol was on scene in the community filling potholes to make roads safer for its users.
Together with her Discovery Pothole Patrol team, CEO Tatum de Lange was on-site in Auckland Park recently, overseeing the repair of potholes ahead of the University of Johannesburg’s UJ Sport for the Future Forward Fun Run with Discovery, set for September 20.
“Our main focus was on safety for everyone participating, and it’s very important to us that no one gets any injuries participating in the race,” she said.
For events like these, the Pothole Patrol team deploys inspectors to travel the designated route, marking any potholes along the way.
Typically, though, the team relies on its app, which allows members of the public to report potholes. Once a report is received, an inspector is sent out to assess whether the pothole is repairable. If it is, a team is dispatched to fix it.

The team primarily handles potholes that span several square metres – sometimes even larger. However, repairs requiring specialised expertise are referred to the relevant city departments.
By the time the publication met with the team, they had already filled about 114 potholes in the area, making the roads significantly safer for users.

De Lange expressed gratitude to the broader community for their active involvement, which made the team’s work more efficient.
“We always have a lot of support from the communities we work in, and we appreciate them as much as they appreciate us,” she said.
