Emmarentia Residents Association invites residents to volunteer and shape Emmarentia’s future

The ERA has plans to revitalise local green spaces with improved facilities, solar lighting, and fitness areas, which they plan to share at the upcoming AGM.

The Emmarentia Residents Association (ERA) will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on September 17, providing a platform for residents to discuss key community issues and learn about ongoing and upcoming projects.

The meeting will address pressing matters affecting the suburb, including water supply challenges and security concerns.

Residents will also receive updates on the work completed by the ERA over the past year, as well as insights into new initiatives currently underway. Importantly, the AGM offers an opportunity for community members to voice any problems they are experiencing and to contribute ideas for improvement.

One of the major projects underway is the Adopt a Park initiative. ERA has proposed adopting the unfenced open public space located below the dam, bordered by John Mackenzie, Louw Geldenhuys, Tana, Hoffmeyer, and 5th avenues.

The goals for this area include controlling invasive alien plants, maintaining cleanliness by preventing litter and illegal dumping, installing solar lighting in select sections, refurbishing the children’s playground, and adding an adults’ gym.

Another exciting development is the John Mackenzie Park upgrade. This project aims to enhance community recreation by introducing a new beach volleyball court, a jungle gym with a slide, and a new roundabout for residents to enjoy.

Additionally, the ERA is rolling out a structured communication project via WhatsApp to streamline how residents log issues with various city entities.

Starting with road-related problems, the initiative involves weekly consolidated reports sent by councillor Nicolene Jonker, which helps escalate concerns effectively.

After addressing road issues over two weeks, the focus will shift to streetlight problems, continuing the effort to tackle the suburb’s challenges systematically.

The ERA also encourages residents to volunteer and join the association to help improve the community together.
