Johannesburg Roads Agency launches urgent repairs Gordon Road sinkhole

The scope of the repairs include excavation, pipe repair, back-filling, and resurfacing of the road.

Work is underway on Gordon Road in Northcliff after a recurring leak on a storm water pipe caused a sinkhole to form above it

Ward 86 councillor Chantelle Fourie-Shawe confirmed that Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has been attending to the issue.

She said the JRA team had been on site on October 11 to carry out work on the excavation, following an investigation into the cause of the sinkhole.

Residents reported this issue several times, which prompted JRA inspections and finally led to them scheduling the work for repairs.

“JRA came to do an investigation into what was causing the sinkhole and found that the pipe needed to be repaired. It’s an in-house JRA team that will be doing the repair work, backfilling, and tarring.”

The publication sent questions to JRA to follow up on the repairs, the article will be updated once received.
