Police launch search after reported drowning at Westdene Dam

Authorities say the operation, involving diving and rescue teams, continues despite weather setbacks.

Gauteng police have opened an enquiry following a reported drowning incident at Westdene Dam on October 19, which occurred at around 11:00.

According to police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, a search operation was immediately launched after the incident was reported.

Members of the Water Policing and Diving Service, along with the K9 Search and Rescue Team, were deployed to the scene to assist in locating the missing person.

However, Sibeko confirmed that the search had to be temporarily suspended due to poor weather conditions on Sunday.

The operation resumed on October 20 and remains ongoing as authorities work to find the individual and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police said investigations are continuing. This is a developing story.
