Residents also received free health screenings, including tests for hypertension, diabetes, HIV testing services (HTS), pap smears, and PSA screenings for men. Health education and referrals were also provided based on individual needs.
Sister Nomatshayina Mkukwana said the day focused strongly on educating residents about hypertension, its warning signs, the importance of healthy lifestyles, and what they should know when they have hypertension, including the diet they should follow and the exercises they have to do.

She explained that hypertension can affect anyone, regardless of age, and warned residents not to ignore symptoms, such as severe headaches.
Mkukwana added that the clinic invited several stakeholders and healthcare professionals to participate in the programme as part of strengthening community health awareness…

Residents were encouraged to exercise regularly and maintain healthy eating habits to help manage hypertension and reduce health risks. Mkukwana advised residents to avoid excessive salt, spices, and fatty foods.
She also warned that many flavourings and spices, like Aromat, often contain more salt than ordinary table salt. According to Mkukwana, hypertension remains one of the most common wellness conditions treated at the clinic, and can affect people of all ages.
The open day formed part of the clinic’s continued efforts to educate residents about preventative healthcare, while encouraging regular screenings and healthier lifestyles.
