Blanket Drive Jozi warms the hearts of Melville’s Hotel Hope for winter

The non-profit organisation launched its sixth annual winter campaign, delivering blankets, food supplies and essential items to support vulnerable community members during the cold season.

As winter grips, Blanket Drive Jozi has launched its sixth annual outreach campaign, beginning with a donation drive at Melville’s Hotel Hope on June 5.

The non-profit organisation delivered 70 blankets, 70 cases of canned food and other essential supplies to support vulnerable community members during the colder months.

Founder Beven Naidu said the initiative has grown significantly since it began as a small effort among friends and family.

He stated that in their first year, the target was 50 blankets, but that number grew to 850 blankets donated, adding to the rapid growth of their support.

The overwhelming response inspired Naidu to formally establish Blanket Drive Jozi as a registered non-profit company, allowing the initiative to expand its reach and support more communities.

Now in its sixth year, the organisation is supporting at least seven charitable initiatives as part of its winter campaign.

Unlike many charitable campaigns, Blanket Drive Jozi operates without corporate sponsorships, relying instead on community support and personal contributions to maintain a direct connection between donors and beneficiaries.

Hotel Hope was selected as the first stop of this year’s campaign, marking the start of another season of giving aimed at providing warmth and assistance to those facing the challenges of winter.
