Young dance star will never stop moving
EA Studio dancer Nekoda Roux says music, friendship, and hard work keep her motivated.
At just 10 years old, Nekoda Roux is already dancing her way towards big dreams… One hip hop routine, Latin performance, and flik flak at a time.
The energetic young dancer trains at EA Studio in Northcliff, where she has spent almost six years building her confidence, technique, and love for performance. “It feels nice, especially being able to dance with most of the friends I’ve made here,” Nekoda said.

Her dance schedule is packed with styles ranging from hip hop and Afro dance to classic ballroom and Latin. While the genres may be very different, Nekoda embraces the challenge of mastering them all. “My top two are hip hop and Latin.”
Like many dancers, she admits some moves can be intimidating at first. Right now, she is focused on improving her flik flak for a battle competition where she will compete in solos, a duo, and a trio. “Practice is important. I can do it, but I land too hard sometimes.”
Although she now performs confidently on stage, Nekoda remembers being nervous when she first started dancing, after leaving ballet as a young child. “I couldn’t sit still when I heard music.”

Dance also runs in the family, with both her parents having danced before her. She looks up to dancers such as Lilly Bradley and Liesel Armstrong for inspiration. One day, Nekoda dreams of competing internationally and dancing in major competitions around the world, but she also hopes to teach others. “I like helping younger girls learn.”
Her advice to other young dancers is simple: “Don’t give up. If you can’t do something yet, you just have to keep practising.”
With her determination and passion, Nekoda is already proving that hard work and heart can go a long way.
