Stirring up support at the Moth annual potjiekos competition

Good food, great company and a shared spirit of giving back were the ingredients for another successful Moth fundraiser.

Members of the Moth gathered on June 14 for the Oasis Shellhole Potjiekos competition, an event that combined friendly rivalry with an important fundraising effort.

The competition, which has been held for several years, continued to provide an opportunity for members and supporters to come together in a spirit of friendship and community. While the trophies awarded to winners may be modest, the focus of the day remained firmly on camaraderie, enjoyment and supporting a worthwhile cause.

This year’s event attracted slightly fewer contestants than the previous competition, with participation affected by the rising costs associated with preparing a potjiekos entry. Competitors carried the expense of ingredients themselves, making the competition a significant commitment for many participants.

Despite the smaller field, the atmosphere remained upbeat as members gathered to share food, conversation and a tradition that has become a popular fixture on the organisation’s calendar.

Funds raised during the competition will support Moth members through a range of initiatives, including assistance with membership fees for those facing financial difficulties.

The fundraising also helps make social events more accessible and strengthens the organisation’s ability to provide support to its members. Beyond the competition itself, the event highlighted the strong sense of community and mutual support that continues to define the organisation.
