A magical journey awaits as The Incredible Journey of Tinkerbell van Tonder takes the stage in Melville

Audiences can expect laughter, tears, and a deeply moving theatrical experience as acclaimed performer Amanda Strydom brings The Incredible Journey of Tinkerbell van Tonder to Die Pienk Kerk.

Acclaimed South African performer Amanda Strydom is set to take to the stage at Die Pienk Kerk, offering audiences an intimate and deeply moving theatrical experience.

Best known for her literary cabaret and one-woman productions, Strydom describes herself first and foremost as an actress who can sing. Her journey into music was unexpected. Despite no formal vocal training, she found herself drawn into musical theatre after a chance audition early in her career. From there, she carved out a unique artistic space that blends storytelling, poetry, and song.

Her latest production, The Incredible Journey of Tinkerbell van Tonder, will be performed in Melville, arriving with significant acclaim, having won awards for Best Musical Theatre at both the Toyota Woordfees and Momentum Aardklop Festival. The show tells the story of an orphaned child’s search for identity and belonging – an emotional narrative filled with humour, heartbreak, and, ultimately, hope.

Strydom explains that the story always comes first in her creative process. “The theme is the foundation.” She added that each song is carefully selected to enhance the narrative, much like in a traditional musical.

Inspired by life’s universal experiences – love, loss, joy, and injustice – her work resonates across cultures, something she has witnessed firsthand through performances in Europe. However, performing at Die Pienk Kerk holds a special significance. “I don’t care about the size of a theatre, actually, the more intimate, the better. I want the audience to feel like I’m sitting in their lounge, telling them a story.”

Audiences can expect a powerful, emotional journey that explores South Africa’s past, identity, and the idea of home. Above all, Strydom hopes they leave feeling healed, happy, and touched. A testament to her enduring commitment to storytelling that connects on a deeply human level.
