Cowboy hats, hobby horses and plenty of laughter took centre stage as Northwest Christian School transformed into a bustling Wild West town for its annual Fun Day.

Learners, parents and teachers embraced this year’s theme with enthusiasm, turning the school grounds into a lively playground of even more fun.

Principal Ezette Olivier said the Wild West theme, chosen by the school’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA), offered each grade an opportunity to showcase its creativity through costumes and themed stalls.

“They loved it. Everyone really climbed in and gave 100% of their time, resources and effort. It was magnificent to see,” she said.

Months of planning by the PTA, staff and parent volunteers helped bring the event to life, with Olivier describing the atmosphere as magnificent.

“It’s a day to build community, bring everyone together and allow people to experience what our school is all about.”

For Grade 7 learner Motlalekgotso Mokgotla, the excitement was impossible to miss.

“My favourite part of the day was definitely the hobby horse racing,” she said.

Although she skipped the mechanical bull herself, watching her friends try to stay on was just as entertaining.

“They held on really tightly,” she said.

Should the same theme come back next year, she would like to see the addition of a dunk tank. “And I’d dunk Mr McNabb first,” she joked.

Whether dressed as cowboys, cowgirls or even Toy Story favourites Woody and Jessie, the school community proved that the greatest adventure of the day wasn’t just the rides – it was coming together to create lasting memories.
