Henry Cock hits day 15
GREENSIDE – A local runner has now run for 15 days of his intended 133, during an epic adventure around South Africa.

Henry Cock has hit day 15 of his epic and record-breaking run across South Africa.
His ultimate goal is a 133-day, 2 800km ‘Road to Mental Health’ run, and so far he has run 316km (just over 10%).

“Down in Umhlanga… a new crowd of runners to run with from our awesome spot @dailydose_sa, and what an awesome crowd,” said the Pirates Road Running member in his latest daily update on Instagram.
“It’s so inspiring when people come and run, and tell us their personal stories. It takes a lot of courage to come and tell people how you’re struggling – and it really touches me when people feel that they can tell me their stuff. Was really an inspiring run.”

He said one man discussed stories of Peppermint Palace, an underground blue movie theatre during apartheid.
The group also ran past the original home of the founder of a popular South African bread producer.

“We heard stories of how with the help of a seven-year-old the police bust a Norwegian drug dealer smuggling drugs in his yacht. We saw Oppenheimer’s house [Milkwood] and their beautiful gardens. We had some fun with their security cameras which kept following us around [clearly we look dodgy]. We then hit the beachfront and saw all the regular sights – the whalebone pier and the lighthouse and Moses Mabida stadium. Looking forward to the next few days here and all the amazing people.”
