Melville Koppies awaits, so put on your hiking shoes

Come to the Melville Koppies from October onwards to find your inner artist, or to virtually explore the area, or you can just put on your hiking shoes and enjoy it the way nature intended.

There are two new activities, at the Melville Koppies, you could take part in from October 4.

Melville Koppies is offering an adventure, which will see your artistic side flourish as you spend four hours on the koppies.

Kuns on the Koppies, is happening on October 4 for R100 per person.

Bring your own art supplies and snacks, and the koppies promises to supply the birds, the spring flowers, and grasses – as well as a professional artist or two, in case you need advice.

For those up for a challenge, their virtual trail run, on October 12, 19, or 26, is something you’ll enjoy.

The experience is hosted by the Trail Fund Project, and its aim, according to organiser Alex Weiss, is to raise awareness of the koppies, and generate revenue for it.

He says, with this virtual format, logging your hike on the Strava app: “We can give participants the flexibility to take part when it suits them.” The route is set, entry is R125, and the fastest contestants will win prizes.

Of course, if you want to stick with the familiar, the Melville Koppies is open every Sunday, from 08:00 to 11.30 (closed October 5 due to a running race).

Go explore the many paths, do a leisurely hike, book a guided tour by calling 079 532 0083, or maybe just enjoy the quiet in the middle of a big city.

R100 for adults, R50 for under 18s, and under 5s are free. Secure parking is available at Marks Park on Judith Road, and security on the koppies is provided.
