First open day a thrilling success for Marks Park All Breeds Dog Training Club
Dog lovers gathered for tips, teamwork, and a day of fun with Marks Park All Breeds Dog Training Club.
Drawing a strong turnout from local dog owners and community volunteers, Marks Park All Breeds Dog Training Club hosted their first-ever open day on September 21.
Chairperson on the Marks Park All Breeds Dog Training Club Naomi Cullinan said this was the first time they’d done an event like this. “The turnout was great. We didn’t know what to expect, but we are glad that everyone who came to support had fun.”

The open day consisted of agility tests, obedience classes, breed parades, fastest recall, a shelter dog parade, obstacle courses, teaching tricks, and a fancy dress-up for the pooches.
Among the volunteers lending a hand were students from Redham House Bedfordview, who used the opportunity to log community service hours required for their school programme. Cullinan praised their efforts, noting that they arrived early in the morning, to help set up, and stayed on to assist with packing up at the end of the day.

Beyond showcasing the club’s training methods, Cullinan shared advice for dog owners unable to attend. “I think the most important thing with your dog is being consistent. Dogs thrive on routine. If you don’t want your dog to bark at cars going past, for instance, don’t let them get into that habit in the first place. It’s about consistently calling them away, treating them when they’re not barking, and rewarding them for the behaviour you want.”
Cullinan highlighted that the club’s training avoids negative methods entirely, relying instead on reward-based techniques. She also reminded owners that many behavioural issues stem from a lack of stimulation. “A lot of bad behaviour comes from dogs that are bored. Make sure that your dog gets enough stimulation, even if it’s just a little bit of training in your lounge. It doesn’t have to be physical exercise – mental exercise is also great. It’s just to get rid of that energy. So, make sure your dog is stimulated and be consistent.”
