PREVIEW: Childhood memories evoked in restoration of waterside ‘paradise’

The Joubert brothers have entered into a joint venture (JV) with two other investors, Gert Maritz and Nhlanhla Madalane, who are partners in a business called CLV Retail.

It’s been quite a while since the sound of children’s laughter rang in the air at the old ‘Waterside Wimpy’ venue.

Considered back then to be a children’s paradise, it was a sad day for many parents when the doors closed.

But new plans are afoot for this property aiming to restore the site to what it was in its heyday.

Property owners for around 18 years, Cas and Thys Joubert have been waiting for two years to secure an operating licence from the Department of Energy.

This was eventually granted two months ago, and the petrol station and shop were reopened soon after.

“It was a huge step forward,” Joubert remarked.
