Vryheid parkrun celebrates volunteers and walkers

Personal bests, milestones and community spirit define another memorable Vryheid parkrun.

Another enjoyable Saturday morning at Vryheid parkrun saw impressive performances, milestone celebrations and a special focus on the event’s walking community.

Strong performances lead the field

Siyathokoza Dlamini claimed first place overall, crossing the finish line in an excellent time of 18:16.

Junior runner Dirco Kotzé produced an outstanding performance to finish third overall, making him the first junior home. His effort was made even more impressive by the fact that he was among the participants to achieve a new personal best.

Ntando Ndlovu was the first woman across the finish line, finishing eighth overall after another strong run.

The event also welcomed several first-time participants, as well as visitors from Cape Town and Johannesburg, adding to the friendly atmosphere that has become a hallmark of Vryheid parkrun.

Ten new personal bests celebrated

Ten participants celebrated new personal best times. Congratulations go to Dirco Kotzé, Nkosikhona, George, Sugandren, Ronnique, Rika, Elisma, Elke, Alta and Blondie on their achievements.

Sally reaches 250 volunteer events

The morning also marked a major personal milestone for long-serving volunteer Sally, who celebrated her 250th volunteer event.

Reflecting on the achievement, she thanked the volunteers and participants who have supported her throughout the years.

“Without all of our wonderful volunteers and participants, I could not have achieved this, and for that I say a huge thank you to everyone. I am officially now Sally V250,” she said.

Celebrating the walking community

The event also encouraged participants to slow down and enjoy the social side of parkrun. The organisers dedicated the weekly photo gallery to the walkers, celebrating the benefits of spending time outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and sharing the experience with others.

Whether running for a personal best or taking a leisurely stroll with friends, Vryheid parkrun continues to offer something for everyone every Saturday morning.
