The electricity crisis in part of Ezakheni E-Section could finally come to an end today (September 8) if all goes according to plan, following the start of repairs at a damaged Eskom substation in the area.

Residents have been without electricity for more than a month after the substation was damaged and cables were stolen, leaving the community struggling without a reliable power supply.

Eskom begins repairs at damaged substation

Eskom started work on the damaged substation this morning, with repairs expected to be completed by the end of the day.

Ward 8 Councillor Vusi Memela confirmed that Eskom teams had begun working on the substation and expressed hope that the work would be completed as scheduled.

The prolonged power outage has placed a significant burden on residents, who have had to cope with the effects of living without electricity for more than a month.

Residents stage protest over prolonged power outage

Frustration over the continued electricity outage boiled over on Monday, August 31, when residents staged a protest outside the Eskom offices.

The community was demanding that Eskom urgently restore electricity in the area, saying the prolonged outage had caused considerable hardship.

The protest came after weeks of residents waiting for the damaged infrastructure to be repaired and power restored.
