Water disruption hits Newcastle as Eskom carries out maintenance
Residents across Newcastle face water disruptions as Eskom maintenance affects municipal infrastructure.
Residents are being advised and notified of a water supply interruption throughout Newcastle East and West.
The Newcastle Municipality released a statement on its official channels earlier this afternoon, stating that the interruption was caused by scheduled maintenance being carried out by Eskom, which has halted the power supply to the affected water infrastructure.
“As a result of the power outage in Newcastle West, the Municipality has been forced to temporarily close the Northdown Reservoir to preserve storage levels and prevent damage to the pumping system,” the statement read.
Several areas affected
The following areas will experience low water pressure or no water supply:
- Newcastle West Reservoir Zone
- Ncandu Park
- Amajuba Park
- Amiel Park
- Surrounding areas in Newcastle East and West
“The supply will be fully restored once Eskom maintenance is completed and the reservoir levels have recovered sufficiently.”
“Updates will be communicated as soon as power is restored, and in the meantime, municipal water tankers will be dispatched to the affected areas where possible.”
In the meantime, residents are being advised to take the following steps until the water is restored:
- Use water sparingly and store water for essential use.
- Keep taps closed to prevent water loss when supply is restored.
- Allow water to run for a short period after restoration, as water may be discoloured.
“The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused,” the statement concluded.
