A weekend of interesting and informative history will be brought to life from Friday evening, October 17, from 6pm to 8pm. A ‘Night at the Museum’ Talana-style: come meet our ghosts and experience the museum come to life after dark and closing time, with an evening talk on the Battlefields; food and refreshments will be on sale.

 
Saturday, October 18 from 10am to 5:30pm: a parade through Dundee, led by SA Irish Pipe Band, re-enactors, cars and motorcycles; pipe band performances during the day; heritage games, open air chess and mlabalaba; craft stalls; food and beverage court; historical and heritage demonstrations; historical talks and video show; Battle of Talana re-enactment at 2:30pm; capture of Winston Churchill re-enactment at 4pm; military encampments and demonstrations of ‘Red Coat’ battle tactics; military and historic memorabilia on sale; book stall; vintage and veteran cars, motorcycles, steam engines; live art exhibitions in the grounds – watch artists at work or have your portrait sketched; sunset parade and lowering of flags in cemetery; piper and bugler – Saturday evening.

The Moth Shellhole museum and pub will be open for fellowship as well. Ingudlane Lodge is offering a two-hour game drive with guide and refreshments at R150 per person – book directly with the lodge please, on 082 879 7734.

Sunday, October 19: 7am: explanation on the Battle of Talana from Lennox Hill, with superb views over Talana Museum and the battlefield. Breakfast at Ingudlane Lodge. 9:30am – 11am: Dundee heritage trail with wreath-laying at Gen Penn Symons’s grave at St James Anglican Church, and also at the Anton von Wouw memorial at the Dutch Reformed Church – led by Pam McFadden. 11:30am: tour departs from the info tent at Talana Museum – qualified guides.

Take own packed lunch and refreshments. Visit to Thornley Farm (Boer headquarters, hospital of the Battle of Talana), Adelaide Farm (scene of eighteenth Hussars and Boer skirmish), visit to newly-discovered British fortifications protecting mountain passes into Natal.
