Vryheid embraces the art of poetry

LOCAL young people gathered at Pheasants and Squire on Saturday, October 18, afternoon to tune in to the fine art of poetry presented by local talents.
The Screaming Silence Poetry session was organised by local poetry group Word of Mouth to give locals a taste of what they have been brewing.
The sessions were initially titled Word of Mouth because that is exactly how they started, by people telling each other about these sessions.
Lungisani Manda and Bright Verge Buthelezi, two brilliant and well renowned Vryheid poets started this movement.
After hearing timeless complaints about poetry being non-existent in Vryheid, the two decided to come together and create a platform for other aspiring poets within the community.
Their first session was on 20 July this year and they have never looked back since.
The two were then joined by Met Mnguni known as Sir Emfesis who was just as passionate about the art of poetry.
“Vryheid has talent, we have our own Mak Manakas, Mutle Muthibes, Masai Dabulas etc here in town. People, who write but have never been heard by many, “ said Lungisani.
The aim of Word of Mouth is to groom local young people for the world of poetry out there.
“We wish to see them on shows like Word Sound and Power, Poetry Africa to name a few,” added Lungisani.
Word of Mouth is already doing very well for itself having already found poets such as Thobile Sithole, La Poet, Mhlengi Dlamini, Thando Mshengu and Scelo da Poet.
Community members are urged to spread the word about this rising movement.
