Ashraf Tailors stump the competition

All the players present were praised for their sportsmanship on and off the pitch as well as the high calibre of cricket played throughout the season

In a competitive atmosphere, the annual Umtshezi Cricket Association Round Robin Tournament was played this past weekend, signalling the end of the cricket season.

Ashraf Tailors cricket club walked away with the ultimate title, champions of the cricket season 2015/2016. After an interesting battle between Colita and Ashraf during the final, Ashraf were victors.

At the presentation on Sunday various other awards were issued to deserving teams and team mates. The tournament was hailed as a success by the Umtshezi Cricket Association.

All the players present were praised for their sportsmanship on and off the pitch as well as the high calibre of cricket played throughout the season.

During the school mini-cricket tournament held on Saturday, April 9, the Drakensberg Secondary School team were eventual winners with excellent and promising performances coming from the Wembezi team and Estcourt High School team. Councillor Breen Ally Buckus and Umtshezi’s Deputy Mayor Bhekithemba Abel Dlamini attended the presentation.

“All in all it was a good tournament capping off the cricket season,” said the association’s spokesperson, Shrey Harrynarain. The association would like to thank the community for showing their support, all generous sponsors for contributing to the success of the tournament as well as the teams and individuals that contributed to a great season.
