Hard luck for Sentraal as they go down to Piet Retief

Piet Retief managed to hold on to take away a memorable victory for them. For Sentraal, Pierre Booysen slotted home a penalty and two conversions.

So lamented Sentraal’s manager, Johann Coetsee, after the local rugby team’s narrow 29-32 defeat to Piet Retief on Saturday.
The home team recently suffered a narrow loss to Vryheid also at home.
Sentraal were down 10-17 at half time and rallied to narrow the gap following three second half tries – including a late flying effort by Xander Kriel. Sentraal also had one try disallowed.

The second team game was also a close affair with Sentraal going down 22-24 to Piet Retief’s second team. Tries were scored by JD van Wyk and Chris Engelbrecht who dotted down twice.Joff Davies kicked two conversions and a penalty. This Saturday, Sentraal is away to Volksrust and the local lads are looking for a bounce-back win.
