Dundee Secondary’s class of 1991 remember when…

There was a touching moment when Sharlotte Ahir lit a candle, that was sent around to the tables to ignite smaller candles, in memory of those pupils from the Class of '91 who have since passed on.

There was much reminiscing, nostalgia and tales of great deeds done… add to that a tasty supper and it all went into making an enjoyable 25th reunion of the Dundee Secondary School class of 1991.
With the silver-tongued Marc Pillay, now in Johannesburg, as master of ceremonies, accompanied by the articulate Sivakanthi Govender, it was an evening to remember. Some, like Dr Dawood Surtee (who travelled from China to be with his old classmates) made a special effort to be there while others came from just around the corner to the Golf Club where the reunion was held. The glib Max Ayob was on hand to joke and play music as only Max can.
Yogan Soobramoney, head boy in 1991, paid tribute to the teachers – many of whom were also at the reunion – and thanked them for their ‘old fashioned hard work’ that laid the foundation for the class that had gone on to make their own way in the world.
Principal at the time, Ms Vinden, gave a short insightful speech on the importance of ‘real human connections’ in this era of social media and fast high-tech communication. There was a touching moment when Sharlotte Ahir lit a candle, that was sent around to the tables to ignite smaller candles, in memory of those pupils from the Class of ’91 who have since passed on.
