GALLERY: Walking for hope at CANSA’s annual Relay for Life

Despite closure of the Newcastle office this year, the community rallied to help raise funds towards CANSA and the fight against cancer.

At the weekend, Newcastle took another step towards a cancer-free future.

Community and business gathered at the Show Grounds on Saturday, eager to get going at CANSA’s annual Relay for Life.

This is the organisation’s biggest fundraiser and awareness campaign.

Despite closure of the Newcastle office this year, the community rallied to help raise funds towards CANSA and the fight against cancer.

“All present here join the thousands who fight against cancer annually,” explained RFL chairperson, Mona Maharaj.

Proceedings got underway with the stirring survivor’s lap, an emotional circuit of the course by cancer survivors.

Caregivers then completed a circuit of their own.

The lap done by volunteers and the RFL committee was followed by a single lap by community teams, after which the relay was officially opened.
