It was an evening of reminiscing and reconnecting when the Drakensberg Secondary School Class of 1993 held their school reunion on Saturday.

For some of the ex-DSS learners, it has been 25 years since they have seen some of the former classmates and there were hugs and handshakes aplenty as the evening got underway at Spanked Sports Bar.

After a prayer by Genevieve Kelly and welcome by Julie Omardath, a touching memorial tribute was presented by Anneline Narainen, remembering those former classmates who had died.

One of the chief organisers of the 25-year high school reunion Praveen Ramdeen, during his speech, explained the years-long process of locating former learners and planning the reunion. He said it started during a conversation at a cricket match in Nelspruit in 2011 and after a few years of tracking people via social media, a WhatsApp chat group was set up and planning of the function began in earnest.

It culminated in a wonderful evening, where the warm atmosphere shared amongst the former classmates chased away the winter chills. The formalities were concluded with a vote of thanks from Mayshri Ramdeen.
