Orphaned and vulnerable children, ushered by nuns and caregivers of the Ithembalethu Outreach Project (IOP) were looking forward to this visit and it clearly showed in the expectant smiles.

After hearing about the work done by the IOP, Estcourt representative from the international relief organisation Gift of the Givers Jaaved Khan contacted Sister Maureen Aron who heads up the project.

IOP cares for more than 200 orphaned and vulnerable children in areas spanning from Frere to Forderville; Colita to Wembezi.

The non-profit organisation provides food, care and support to the children and resources are often limited.

More than 200 food parcels were handed out to the children from Ithembalethu Outreach Project.

Sister Maureen and her co-workers breathed a sigh of relief when the Gift of the Givers stepped in and offered to provide food parcels to more than 200 children.

The food parcels consists of staple food items to last a family for a month and includes a 10kg mielie meal, beans, teabags, sugar and other family essentials.

These food packs were received with gratitude on Saturday morning with even the littlest tots carrying the weighty parcels with pride. The Gift of the Givers has pledged continuous support to IOP, which was welcomed by Sister Maureen and her team of caregivers.
