Newcastle SAPS, in partnership with Isambane Productions, held the Amajuba Big Walk on Human Rights Day (March 21).
The five kilometre fun walk started at the Newcastle Police Station, with runners and walkers covering the distance with lighthearted conversation and laughs all the way.
Organiser, SAPS Spokesman Captain Jabulani Ncube said he wanted to encourage physical fitness.
“More than anything we want to encourage the community of all Amajuba, to live active and healthy lifestyles. We also want to promote unity and social cohesion within our town, and understand that everyone has rights and we must respect those rights. It has been a great run, and we hope to make some sort of change in society.”
Isambane Production’s Siyabonga Mthethwa, said the message conveyed is that people must live their best lives.
“It’s very important to live a life that you’re proud of as a human being. If you’re not happy with anything in your life, especially with health, you can change that at any moment. That is why we are here, to encourage healthy living. We should stay active, so that our minds can always be nourished. We love that people were getting along, that proves that if we all come together as a community, we can all work together for the greater good of this town.”
The Amajuba Big Walk organisers thanked all sponsors for their support in making the event a success.
