Action-packed weekends for local runners
In preparation for the Comrades, another group of runners had a very successful 50km run

Elizma Nortje tackled her first 21.1km marathon on April 27 during the Cradle of Humankind Race in Krugersdorp. This is an exhilarating event set against the breathtaking backdrop of one of humanity’s oldest landscapes. It is a scenic route that winds through the historic Cradle of Humankind, offering a perfect blend of challenging terrain and natural beauty.
On the same weekend, runners from Vryheid Athletic Club (VAC) made their way to Durban to participate in the Durban International Marathon. This is a qualifier race for the 56km Two Oceans Ultra-Marathon and the 90km Comrades Marathon. The results are as follows:
42.2km:
Hlobi Madida – 03:57:31;
Simphiwe Maseko – 04:48:03; and
Jabulani Ndwandwe – 04:50:46.
On Saturday, Hlobisile Madida ran a 15km race in Boksburg in a time of 01:16:40 while another group of runners participated in Nquthu. The Prince Mangosuthu Ultra-Marathon is a 52km race from Nquthu to Dundee. The results were as follows:
52km:
Simphiwe Buthelezi – 05:22:13;
Siyanda Mncube – 06:17:16;
Mandla Mnisi – 04:43:13;
Mcebisi Msezane – 03:20:13;
Lungani Mthethwa – 04:31:23; and
Jabulani Ndwandwe – 06:55:12.
21km:
Gugu Nkosi – 02:02:49;
Buyisiswe Kunene – 02:33:03;
Bhekinkosi Mbatha – 01:24:17; and
Fanyana Ndzukula – 03:42:58.
10km:
Michael Bhengu – 01:14:39;
Bongiwe Zulu – 01:12:57; and
Silindile Zungu – 01:33:52.
In preparation for the Comrades, another group of runners had a very successful 50km run on Saturday.
Important dates: May 11 – I Love Mom Run; May 23 – Nelfri Kemp; May 30 – Comrades Social; June 1 – Wimpy Comrades Run; June 6 – Comrades Marathon; June 13 – Aches & Pains Braai.
