It was a sad weekend for South African sport – the Proteas lost to the Aussies; the Springboks lost to the Aussies; and Dricus lost his fight, 0 out of 3.

Scottie Scheffler won the BMW for his fifth win of the season. This year’s Tour Championship will be a 72-hole stroke-play tournament and all players will start off on a level playing field at even par – not the staggered stroke system they have used over the last few years. As mentioned, the winner will be the FedEx Cup champion and he will earn a $10 million bonus and five-year tour exemption.

On the home front, the AACL Golf Day was held on Saturday (August 16). There were 2 two-clubs on the day: Rory Sanders and Mike Suddaby. Then there were the novelty prize winners. Nearest the pins: 3rd – Wayne Grant, 8th – Gerhard van der Westhuizen, 11th – Phillip Boardman, and 12th – Jacqui Porrill. The longest drive went to Gerald Boardman, and the longest putt Bheki Mbokazi. The winners on 43 points were Phillip Boardman and Rory Sanders, with Enrico Bozza and Pam Sanders in second place, Willie Erasmus and Mike Suddaby in third, and Chris Nel and Aurette Boardman in fourth.

Thanks to Pauline Lennon and her team for a great day!

This coming weekend is the Ladysmith High School Golf Day; 27th – FNB Skaapdag; and 30th – Build-It Scramble. Thanks to Enrico, Bryan and Brett Cunningham, and Gary Beaton for the construction of the bridge on the 7th hole – the photos I received look good, guys!

At the time of going to press, there was no news from the Jester as to the card game on Friday night. I’m sure he will be back to play cards this Friday, so get there and enjoy an evening of fun.

Members, please take note that the main club’s AGM is on Thursday (August 21) in the main hall at 14:45.

This week’s quote is from none other than JFK, with a slight change: Ask not what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club.
