Strong start to 2026 for Vryheid parkrun runners
Vryheid parkrun starts 2026 with wins, milestones and multiple personal best performances.
Vryheid parkrun started the new year on a high note last Saturday, with a mix of milestones, victories and personal bests for runners of all ages.
Back-to-back win for Emmanuel Haile
Emmanuel Haile claimed his second consecutive win in just his second parkrun, crossing the finish line in an impressive personal best time of 21:26. For the women, Sindy Swanepoel was first across the line, marking her first win in only her third parkrun.
Milestones and personal bests celebrated
Milestones were also celebrated, with Cherith Summerfield completing her 50th parkrun. Organisers praised the commitment and spirit of all participants, noting that nine runners achieved all-time personal bests, namely Emmanuel, Alex, Mamush, Antony, Alta, Dave, Dawid, Joann and Tatum.
Welcoming new runners to the parkrun community
The event also welcomed new faces, with some taking on shorter routes as they begin their parkrun journey. Organisers reminded everyone that the hardest part of getting fit is simply taking the first step out the door, but the parkrun community is there every Saturday to cheer runners on.
Positive tone for the 2026 season
With a mix of determination, achievement and community spirit, Saturday set a promising tone for the rest of 2026’s parkrun season.
