Wildflower-lined Vryheid parkrun draws newcomers and fast times
Vryheid parkrun delivered fast times, new faces and a standout win from Cameron Boock, who notched a personal best after completing an early route check.
Vryheid parkrun delivered another lively morning of running on Saturday, with Cameron Boock taking first place after clocking a personal best. His effort drew praise from volunteers, especially since he had already completed the route earlier as the designated route checker.
“Cameron ran the course before most people even arrived and still came back to win it,” the event team said. “We’re grateful for the help and proud of his performance.”
Call for runners to register
The first woman over the line was an unregistered runner. The organisers again encourage participants to register and bring their barcodes to ensure that their times, milestones and emergency details are recorded.
Personal bests despite tough wind
Despite a strong wind on the course, 13 runners managed personal bests. Congratulations to Cameron, Kwanele, Sindy, Charl, George, Nomfundu, Louise, Nompilo, Fanyana, Marti, Janette, Mia and Surina.
New faces join the event
The event also welcomed several newcomers and visitors.
Scenic route and community support
At this time of year, the route is lined with wildflowers, creating one of the most scenic parkrun settings in the region. The organisers thanked Vryheid Golf Club for hosting the event and maintaining the grounds, as well as nearby residents who have added trees, plants and flowers along the route. Regular participants who contribute to the finish-line garden were also acknowledged.
