Cyclists get ready to go ‘over the edge’
Free T-shirts and goodie bags are provided to the first 200 entrants and the day will be rounded off with a dinner-dance

The following is a literal description of Van Reenen/Swinburne Tourism Association’s annual mountain bike race.
Starting and finishing at the historic Green Lantern Inn (founded in 1892) in Van Reenen, the 48-kilometre course contains swooping downhill stretches and testing uphill sections.
From the inn, the ride goes past the fuel line pump station and then right ‘over-the-edge’ of the escarpment and down, down, down. Then back up to the edge of the N3, down again, up again, across the railway line and through a candle-lit tunnel.
Down once again and then the final climb to the finish, taking riders round the notorious Windy Corner. The ride provides breathtaking views of the escarpment and valleys.
Five water points provide refreshment along the way.
The race starts at 8am on Saturday, October 28, at the Green Lantern and this year is in support of CANSA. Early registration is available through ROAG (www.roag.co.za) and late registration can be made on the day from 6am.
The day is not only for the more energetic riders, there is also a 21-kilometre, intermediate race and a 10-kilometre ride for children.
Free T-shirts and goodie bags are provided to the first 200 entrants and the day will be rounded off with a dinner-dance at the Green Lantern.
