Anglers come out with all guns blazing at Sandford
The star angler of the day was Kaveer Singh of Breakwaters AC, who notched up 20 points
The much anticipated clash between the heavyweights of the APL, Ladysmith AC and Breakwaters, lived up to expectations as both squared off for the KO Final at Sandford.
There was great anticipation as the anglers awaited the outcome of the draw of the zones.
It would seem as though most anglers were happy that Zones D/E were chosen as the battleground.
The catches started slowly, with sporadic catches recorded in Zone D, while the anglers in Zone E were having a field day catching fish at regular intervals.
The Breakwaters outfit came out all guns blazing and bagged 125 points to 75 points of Ladysmith Angling Club.
The star angler of the day was Kaveer Singh of Breakwaters AC, who notched up 20 points.
The next showdown between these teams will be the AA Tours Grand Challenge on April 15 at Richgate Park, where the winner of the VME League (Ladysmith) will fish against the winner of the Transnat Knockout (Breakwaters).
Both clubs have one piece of silverware.
The top three anglers for Breakwaters were Kaveer Singh (20 points); Matthew Shunmugam (13 pts) and Shakeel Sheik (13 pts).
The title holders of the APL are: Yusuf Cassim of Dannhauser Angling Club (Heaviest Scaled Fish of 3.870kg); Valentino Murugan of Ladysmith AC (Heaviest Non-Scaled Fish of 11.490kg); Abhay Jawair of Stillwaters AC (Junior Angler of the Year – 9 pts); Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwaters AC (Lady Angler of the Year – 6 pts), Dan Govinder of Ladysmith AC (Senior Angler of the Year – 15 pts) and Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters AC (Angler of the Year – 53 pts).
The season will end with the first APL Closed Competition, where all registered members of the APL stand to win lucrative prizes. This competition will take place on May 6 at Sandford.
