Twenty-eight athletes from the club will take on the ultra marathon this Sunday

Biggarsberg Athletes took to the streets of Glencoe on Saturday to drum up support for the Comrades Marathon.

Twenty-eight athletes from the club will take on the ultra marathon this Sunday, running from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. The athletes used Saturday as a warm-up for Comrades, showcasing their wonderful team spirit in the process.

They were also given a motivational talk by Trisha Rajkumar.

Trisha is no stranger to competing on a big stage. She’s competed in the Miss SA India pageant as well as Miss Earth and has represented South Africa in International karate tournaments. Trisha highlighted that as much as being physically ready was important, athletes had to be mentally prepared as well.

“The best mental preparation you can have is visualisation of your goals. So when you get a chance, just take a minute, close your eyes and picture what you want to achieve from the Comrades,” she said.
The runners, inspired and motivated by Saturday’s Breakfast Run will be looking to fly the flag high for the area this Sunday.

The 28 athletes from BBAC competing are: Bongani Sabelo, Bongani Zwane, Clement Nelson, Conrad Labuschagne, Duma Zwelihle, Fanifani Mthembu, Jean Nxumalo, Khetokuhle Mchunu, Khulani Nene, Lindani Sangweni, Lindelihle Khuzwayo, Mbutiza Ngcobo, Muzawenkosi Zwane, Mzwandile Nxumalo, Neville Griffiths, Pat Sibisi, Philimon Zondi, Sakhile Dlomo, Samkelisiwe Ngobese, Sanele Nxumalo, Dr Shane Hilliar, Sikhumbuso Moloi, Sipho Phungula, Siyabonga Mbatha, Siyabonga Ngobese, Thobeka Mbatha, Xolani Mazibuko and Zanele Mncube.
