Empty taps this morning? Here’s why…

"People are on the way from Durban to fix it," says Van Der Walt, "but there is no way of telling when it will be ready."

Vryheid residents may have been surprised to wake up to empty taps again this morning, following the recent reassurance that 6 megalitres of water would be pumped daily over the long weekend.

According to AfriForum Vryheid Chairman, André Van Der Walt, who has been keeping his finger on the pulse of the water problems facing Vryheid, one of the pumps at the Klipfontein intake tower that feeds water to town has packed up and needs to be repaired.

“People are on the way from Durban to fix it,” says Van Der Walt, “but there is no way of telling when it will be ready.”

Magda Viktor, who has spearheaded the drive to ensure residents have access to water, urges the community to continue to collect water from the Klipkerk.
