Landbou’s ‘Bucket Brigade’

THE last two weeks at Landbou have reminded us to be very grateful for running water.

Due to maintenance to our reservoir, the school was without water for a week. The school would like to thank the water angels of Vryheid who provided the school with water tanks and drinkable water. Our learners learnt the value of water by sharing the experience of the bucket brigade.

The new borehole is now connected to the reservoir, thanks to Mr Pieters and Mr van der Schyff. This new borehole will ensure that the farm will be able to survive through the winter. Considering the desperate situation that Vryheid and other parts of our country are in, we are eternally grateful for the water that we have. We pray for rain.

On the sports field, our school had stiff competition. We played against VHS and Dundee and learnt valuable lessons and showed good sportsmanship. Thank you to the two schools for a good day of sports. On May 4, our rugby teams are playing against Pionier.

Trials for rugby, netball and hockey took place on April 26. Congratulations to the following learners for going through to the next round: Rugby – Ndumiso Ngema: Went through to the Northern Natal rugby team, Wandile Mokoena, Bongokuhle Nkosi: This young gentleman was the player of the day! Netball – Zanokuhle Zulu (u/17), Saneme Novela (u/15), Sisa Sibiya and Akona Hadebe (u/14) and Sibahle Sithole (u/13). Hockey – Refiloe Mokoena and Bongeka Sithole.

In the meantime learners are preparing the ‘ossies’ for the Royal Show at the end of May. If people consider involving themselves in the lives of these promising young people by visiting us to consider any support, you will invest in something very special.

We also would like to express our condolences to the families who have lost dear ones in the senseless murders that took place in and around Vryheid in the past week. We pray for you and for our country.
