Grootgewacht plagued by water leaks

TWO serious water leaks between Grootgewacht Dam and Bloemveld treatment works were recently repaired.
Last week it was discovered that water from Grootgewacht Dam had been disappearing at an alarming rate for quite some time. It is believed that approximately fifty megalitres of precious water was lost before the repairs were carried out.
According to AfriForum’s Andrè Van Der Walt, there is believed to be another leak in the dam belonging to Horst Hellberg. This dam is presently being drained to enable repairs.
“We suspect there is another leak inside Rietvlei Marsh,” adds Van Der Walt, “but we cannot get in there as the area is overgrown with bramble. I have organised with Working on Fire to burn the area so that we can get in to see what is going on in there.”
“Grootgewacht Dam is closed at present, so no water is going to waste.”
The community is urged to save water wherever possible, as the water supply will not last forever.
