Putting health first with Valentia
PROMOTING and maintaining good health and fitness, this national obesity month, is local fitness instructor, Valentia Thwala.
This local, who is originally from eMondlo, started her fitness journey in 2014 and says that it has helped her feel better about herself and maintain a great lifestyle.
“I started working on my fitness not just as a sport, but also as a means to inspire and motivate other people to start leading a healthy lifestyle,” said this 35 year-old.
On what she thinks is essential in balancing both diet and fitness, in order to maintain a healthy weight, Valentia said that the best place to start is to work on controlling what you eat.
“It is not just about the amount of food you eat, the quality is a very important aspect. In other words, you need to consume food that is packed with nutrients,” said Valentia.
She mentioned water as another major keypoint as it not only keeps one hydrated but also helps boost ones metabolism.
“It might sound difficult but it really isn’t, especially if you are determined to make that change in your life. A great eating plan usually includes six small meals (inclusive of three light snacks in-between) divided equally throughout the day,” she explained.
Lastly, this mother of two, encourages eating lots of fruit and vegetables, lean protein (remove skin and fat from your meat), try to incorporate healthy smoothies in your diet, drink lots of water and green tea.
Locals who are interested in more of these health tips can meet Valentia at her AbaQulusi Summer Bootcamp “Get Summer Fit” event, which will be held at Khondlo High School in eMondlo.
The event will start at 9am and end at 11am. For more details, contact her on WhatsApp at 073 085 0544.
