Suspected armed robber arrested in court

A man was arrested for armed robbery at court where he appeared in connection with a theft case.

A suspected armed robber was arrested in court on Friday shortly after he appeared in the docks in connection with another case of theft.

Going through hundreds of identikits proved worthwhile when the victim of the armed robbery recognised the face of her attacker on the police database.

The woman, who cannot be named, had been using a shortcut behind the Farmer’s Hall, when she was accosted by a man who demanded her bag at gunpoint.

When she reported the incident at the police station, she claimed that she would never forget the face of the man who attacked her, and was therefore encouraged by officers to see if she could recognise any of the faces on the police database.

After viewing numerous identikits, she positively identified a man who was scheduled to appear in court that Friday. Ironically, the man was to appear in court in connection with another incident of robbery, which took place behind the Farmer’s Hall the previous month.

In order to be absolutely certain that the man scheduled to appear in court was the same man the victim believed had robbed her, she went to court on Friday to observe him from the public gallery.

Once she indicated that she was certain he was indeed the culprit, the man was arrested in court and subsequently charged with armed robbery.Witnesses say that as the man was being led away by police, he vehemently denied that he had robbed anyone.
