Warrant Officer SL Balgobindh and Warrant Officer JJ van Vuuren are the latest recipients of the Spur ‘Cop of the Month’ award. These two officers were rewarded for sterling work in cases they worked on, which resulted in convictions. W/O Balgobindh secured convictions in a murder case and a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm. In the murder case, the accused stabbed another man at a tavern in Steadville and was recently sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. The second case involved an AK-47 rifle that was recovered in the Pieters area, W/O Balgobindh was given the docket to investigate and the 26-year-old accused was eventually given nine years in jail. W/O van Vuuren was rewarded for his success in a robbery case in which handbags were stolen on the Soofi Bridge. He was handed the docket to investigate and the two accused were sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
