Despite living in South Africa for 19 years, Lindy Jang has not forgotten where she comes from and ensures others feel the same sense of pride about their heritage.
As the principal of the Chinese and Taiwanese School, Mrs Jang oversees the teaching of young Chinese children within the community. At the school, children are taught their mother tongue and traditional writing.
“I saw how the school benefited my children and it is a must that children keep their culture,” she explained.
Through embracing one’s own culture, Mrs Jang added, a person gets a sense of belonging and avoids a certain amount of persecution.
But while actively involved in the school and running her own business, Mrs Jang is also involved in the Tzu Chi Foundation which assists those in need. “The charity work has benefited me a lot, as giving to others is sometimes a bigger blessing that getting,” said Mrs Jang.
Through charity work, Mrs Jang says that spreading good will within the community is always rewarding.
