Success for treverton college batsman

Tristan Pickering amassed 382 runs, the top scorer at the competition and the winner of the Kookaburra Batting Award.

Treverton College’s first cricket team was back at the pitch at the end of third term, putting into practice their skills and preparing to take part in neighbouring Weston Agricultural Colleges 19th annual Michaelmas Cricket Festival.

The festival is considered one of the major school cricket festivals and this year 12 teams participated, with schools coming from the Western Province, Free State, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. It provides cricketers with the opportunity to play against teams that are not on their school’s usual fixture list.

It was a 20-20 tournament.

Treverton fielded a team of 13-players, including three junior players; Franco Erasmus, Graham Smith and Jerome Klopper who are all Grade nine learners and showed promise for the future.

In the results, Treverton defeated their traditional rivals Weston in the Coca-Cola Points Competition to achieve a third place and runners up to second position Howick High School and the winners Hans Moore High School of Benoni.

An accolade for Treverton was that Tristan Pickering amassed 382 runs, the top scorer at the competition and the winner of the Kookaburra Batting Award.
