Former municipal top dog paid off following CCMA hearing
Former director of Town Planning will be paid till the end of his contract after lodging a grievance with the CCMA.
Former municipal top dog, Eric Nyathikazi, will be paid till the end of his contract after resigning under contentious circumstances two months ago.
Mr Nyathikazi served the Newcastle municipality as the former director of Town Planning, and also as acting strategic executive director (SED) of the Department of Development, Planning and Human Settlements until Thuli Thusi was officially appointed in the position.
It is believed that he lodged a grievance against the Newcastle municipality with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) after he was not appointed as SED, despite having acted in the position.
At the arbitration hearing, all parties agreed that Mr Nyathikazi’s employment would be terminated with effect from August 31.
It was further agreed that the municipality would pay Mr Nyathikazi an amount equivalent to what he would have earned had it not been for the termination of his employment, and that he would be paid the additional allowance he would have earned had he continued to act as SED for a period of six months.
