Dismissed Umzinyathi District Municipality’s Corporate Services Manager, Bhunu Buthelezi , has hit back following his firing following charges of misconduct by saying he would take the matter to the Labour Court.
Mr Buthelezi told the Courier that his legal team and Umzinyathi’s legal representatives had reached an agreement that the matter be settled out of hearing. Mr Buthelezi was promised to settle the matter if he resigned and would be paid an amount equivalent to 18 months of his salary.
He said the legal document was prepared and was to be signed by both parties.

“We were shocked to find out that the council has changed (it’s mind) and now they want to settle the matter with an amount based on eight months salary.”
He said his attorneys rejected the offer and asked the council representative to discuss the way forward. An angry Mr Buthelezi added: “Instead of discussing the offer, the council demanded to continue with the hearing. My defence team told me that we can not attend this hearing because we are here to finalise the settlement and later I received a letter informing me that I have been dismissed.” Mr Buthelezi said he felt his rights were severely violated and that ‘the matter would end up in the labour court or in the highest court of this country
