Newspaper lads to ‘Mo-off’ this Movember
Movember was created to raise awareness for male cancer types, and to raise funding.
It’s official – Quinton Boucher and Bruce Douglas will compete for the best facial hair this Movember, in an attempt to raise awareness for male cancers.
At the age of 28, Quinton was forced to undergo treatment to remove a malignant melanoma which formed on his upper leg.
It was a harsh wake-up call for the joker of the bunch. His own experience with cancer has led Quinton to issue a challenge to others to cultivate their moustaches this Movember.
Speaking seriously and in remission for some time, Quinton believes the tendency of men to ignore health problems needs to be addressed. He names it the ‘Chuck Norris syndrome’. Although his cancer scare was not a specifically male disorder, Quinton hopes his support for Movember will inspire other men to get their problems checked out with urgency.
This year, explained Ncandu 86 Round Tabler, Christo van der Vyver, local Movember efforts in previous years have garnered almost 100 supporters. In inspiring additional support, he said there is a lot in the pipeline.
To that end, residents are encouraged to grow their Mos next month. A number of prizes, to be revealed at a later stage, are up for grabs by those men who cultivate the finest moustache by the end of Movember. Mr van der Vyver can be reached on 083 375 5883 for more.
